Appalachian Ingenuity Series: Fancy Lettering and Botany Study with Robin Skillern

Participants will tour the North House gardens and identify and make drawings of various native plants. We will experiment with different styles of writing to create identification tags using a calligraphy style marker.

Robin Skillern, an artist and educator, practices her art from her home in rural Greenbrier County, WV. Her creative endeavors are inspired by the beauty and intricacy of the natural world. She works in a variety of mediums including painting, printmaking, calligraphy, collage, pottery, jewelry, and bookmaking. Foraging materials in the biodiverse area of Appalachia creates a web for nature to inform art and support sustainable environmental practices. Robin has a bachelor’s degree in art and a master’s degree in early childhood education and attended the Leo Marchutz School of Painting and Drawing in Aix-en-Provence, France. She continues to attend workshops and take classes related to her various art interests. She has taught children through the arts program at Carnegie Hall, WV for many years and recently worked with adults through a National Endowment for the Arts grant. Her art has been displayed locally, and in Virginia, North Carolina, and Georgia.

Workshop will last approximately 90 minutes. FREE and open to the public! All materials provided.
